Mercredi 25 novembre, à la veille de Thanksgiving, Barack Obama et ses deux filles ont respecté le rituel de la famille présidentielle, qui veut qu'une dinde soit graciée avant cette fête traditionnelle américaine, pour ensuite aller distribuer le dîner de Thanksgiving à des sans-abri.

C'est dans une église méthodiste de Washington que la famille Obama s'est retrouvée dans la soirée de mercredi à distribuer des morceaux de dinde et des légumes, gratifiant parfois leurs hôtes d'un : "Comment ça va Monsieur ?" En avez-vous assez [dans l'assiette] ?".Fête familiale par excellence aux Etats-Unis, Thanksgiving, ou "action de grâce" en français, est célébrée chaque année le dernier jeudi de novembre. Elle trouve ses racines dans les premières années de la colonisation, au début du XVIIe siècle, quand les Européens installés de fraîche date avaient, selon la tradition, remercié Dieu pour l'abondance des moissons et l'aide accordée par les Indiens.
